Curriculum Enrichment Leader: Miss Haythornthwaite
Prior to the Covid-19 reduced provision lockdown, we had prepared, for Summer Term 2020, to trial the brand new Enrichment Time offer for our children. It replaces the current PPA format and we know from our studies and conversations with children during Spring Term that it was time to make something new of this vital afternoon of learning. We are frustrated at having to wait but are now ready to launch this curriculum enrichment offer timetabled initially for Key Stage 2 from the start of Autumn Term 2020. It is hoped that, if successful, we will spread this further down school during the course of the school year.
Enrichment Time has targeted Physical Education, PSHE and Art as the first three areas to create additional time to deepen knowledge and skills for our children. Children will be able to have their voice about the areas that they study and their period of study will run one afternoon per week for a term with a final outcome/parent celebration event at the end of this time. We are hopeful that by Christmas we can invite families to attend our special parent celebrations. If we are not able to do this, we are looking at developing MAYFIELD TV as a means of sharing outcomes to work. (This is an aspiration not a certainty at this stage!)
ALWAYS START WITH WHY
Our reasons for introduction of Enrichment Time are as follows:
1) To enable and value every talent, gift, interest and achievement - living our vision.
2) To deepen study within specific non-core subject areas - promoting a broad curriculum as per our vision.
3) To work in smaller groups to enable enhanced tuition and support for knowledge and skill development.
4) TO PROMOTE TALK, DISCUSSION, DEBATE AND CONFIDENCE IN OUR CHILDREN - LETS TALK AT MAYFIELD.
The final presentation/parent celebrations are a wonderful chance to showcase and value our children's achievements but also for them to present and perform confidently for different audiences. We will be using our newly designed Mayfield Theatre and Studio to support our work during Enrichment Time.
Children will work in smaller groups during this time (approximately half class sizes at the most).
We operate a year group rather than class model at this time, so children may not be in their setting with their usual classmates.
Children will have the chance to work with other children across their year group bubble at this time and may work in different areas of school.
We will write to families outlining the Enrichment Time for their child for the term ahead prior to it commencing.
Children will have chance to express their preferences prior to it commencing. Children will undertake their first or second choice from the offer.
Miss Haythornthwate (Judge H TV Debating Chamber), Mrs Bairstow (Dance), Miss Lane (Art), Mr Denton (Team Sport/Drama) & Mrs Beavers (Art) will lead the Enrichment Time groups.
